The Ladies of “Boys’ Life”

Jen Shirley (Lisa)

After years of trying to be “practical,” Jennifer decided to follow her lifelong dream
of being an actor. Her first step was going to South America for three months
to work on an independent film. That experience was enough for her to realize
there was nothing else she wanted to do but act. Since then, Jennifer has moved
to Vancouver, where she continues to train while expanding her list of credits in
television, film, commercials and stage.

Marianne Mandrusiak (Maggie)

Marianne is ecstatic about being involved with Penguin Pool for their production of “Boy’s Life.”  After performing and traveling with Norwegian Cruise Lines and Orient Lines, Marianne attended the Canadian College of Performing Arts in Victoria, BC. Recent favourite credits include “Inga” Better Living – Fly By Night Theatre Company, and “Bride” The Wedding Singer – Fighting Chance Productions.  Marianne would like to thank Matt Belbin for being awesome, and she hopes you enjoy the show!

Jacqueline Bennett (Karen)

Photo and bio coming shortly…

Jenna Reed (Woman)

Jenna recently graduated from Studio 58 where she enjoyed performing such roles as Anger Bird in Ash Girl, Nerissa in the Merchant of Venice and more. Jenna is also the writter and producer of a one woman series called “2A” which she performs with her side kick Dottie (a house plant). Jenna is a big fan of the discovery channel.

Sarah Szloboda (Carla)

Sarah is an Actor/Director/Producer and graduate of Capilano University’s Acting program.  Favourite acting credits include The First Time (Terminal Theatre), The Gift that Lasts (Gateway Theatre), Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Skriker, Threepenny Opera (Exit 22). As Artistic Director of Terminal Theatre, her recent directing credits include Speed-The-Plow, The Vic, and the Fringe festival hit The First Time which she co-wrote. Sarah was recently Assistant Director for Antony & Cleopatra for this season of Bard on the Beach.  She wishes to thank Matt for the opportunity, and hopes you are as excited to be part of Boy’s Life as she is.

The Boys of “Boys’ Life”

Matt Russell (Jack)

Matt has been involved in the performing arts from the age of 3, with a background mainly rooted in musicals. Most recent credits include Hair (Fighting Chance), Hello, Dolly! (EPI) and West Side Story (Arts Club Theatre). Matt is honoured to portray the challenging role of Jack, and is excited to be part of Penguin Pool Theatre’s first production. He also loves that he gets to call someone a ‘mongoloid’ onstage.

Brandyn Eddy (Don)

Brandyn is a graduate of the the Musical Theatre program at Capilano University (and he doesn’t care that it wasn’t a university when he graduated, he’s saying it anyway). Favourite credits include: Nips in Prodigals (Twenty Something Theatre), Jon in tick, Tick…BOOM! (Fighting Chance), Seymour in Little Shop of Horrors (URP) Aramis in The Three Musketeers (because he got to use a sword), and Napoleon in The Man of Destiny (who wasn’t actually as short as everyone thinks he was). Brandyn is very excited to be a part of Penguin Pool Theatre’s inaugural production and also to fulfill a lifelong dream of preforming in his underwear. Don’t stare too hard.

Martin Hallat (Phil)

Martin is thrilled to be producing and acting in Penguin Pool theatre’s debut show. For the last 6 years, Martin has studied acting at The First Step Actor’s Workshop, The Actor’s Centre, the Kate Twa Acting studio and the Bruhanski Theatre Studio. His most recent stage credits include Opening Night (Metro Theatre), Amorica (SHIFT Arts) and The Distance From Here (Fighting Chance Productions). He would like to thank his all his friends and family for their support.
